Winning Mixologist at The W Kuala Lumpur!
What makes any bar great is, of course, the drinks behind it. If you’re down for some wonderful cocktails and tropical greatness then we have found the best bartender for the job. Only at The Wet Deck, W Kuala Lumpur, Junior is a recent winner of the Amaro di Angostura Versus competition. With such a wonderful win in sight, I simply had to try out some of his best drinks and learn more about the man behind the bar.
Junior has been in the industry almost 20 years! Born in Sabah, Junior stumbled upon the art of mixology simply by accident. Not exactly a star student in his school, he joined his brother in the hospitality industry; learning to mix drinks and fuse flavors for customers. A major turning point in his career was a competition that led him to compete in New Zealand and suddenly, everything had fallen into place -- this is what he was made to do.With all that experience, we couldn’t resist asking him to tell us how our different asian stereotypes would order their drinks. Here’s what we got!
The Demanding Socialite
What more would they want than the absolute most instagrammable drink on the menu? Lucky for them, The Wet Deck provides your Instagram with stunningly perfect photos, so really any drink would suit the venue. But for that one drink that’s best, it’s the 1972 Tour. It’s simple why: It comes in a disco ball! Fun, quirky, and sparkly in the light -- it brings out that perfect by-the-pool shot for that seamless getaway photo. Trust us when we say that your Instagram will look like no other.
The Asian Playboy
Junior knows all kinds of people and has met countless drunks and attitude, and there’s the usual pick-up chicks attitude of men at bars. Through all of this, they almost always end up ordering drinks for other women. What is that drink, you might ask?
The stronger one. Literally anything goes as long as it’s strong and fruity and just as pretty for the gram.
The Protective Boyfriend
Definitely low alcohol by volume drinks, and usually more wine based -- a seemingly great choice for a drink here is the Wolf Whisperer. In a traditionally mesmerising cup, it comes with a sweet and sour kick that leaves you only slightly buzzed by the end of it. It’s great for evening relaxations in the sun. Although, it’s a more unique taste than any other and personally a favourite of mine.
One of the drinks at The Wet Deck that definitely deserves some attention is the Native HighBall. In fact, it was the winning drink at the Amaro di Angostura Versus competition. Better yet, it’s the only drink with a Bamboo Straw (talk about environmentally friendly). All other drinks come with paper straws.
The overall Wet Deck experience provides us with class and fun at every turn, so definitely make sure to stop by this Friday to get away from a hectic work life!
