TARIK Releases ASAS
A NON- CONFORMING BASIC, STRIPPED DOWN AND AFFORDABLE JEANS
Tarik Jeans (Tarik) on 24th April 2019 announced the drop of its new jeans named ASAS that comes in both slim and straight cut. The original homegrown cult label for good denim draws inspiration from its own sold-out premium denim released in 2017 but stripped down to feature new elements such as the paper patch, silk-screen T (for Tarik) trademark archuate which will fade beautifully, and sustainably rinse washed for an authentic raw colour. This is staying true to the philosophy of ASAS – meaning ‘basic’ or ‘fundamental’ in English. The result is a minimalistic high quality, responsibly sourced, well fitting and of course, long lasting jeans that Tarik has always been known for.
Retailing at RM199, ASAS is produced with the idea of affordability without compromising quality. This is in line with Tarik’s tagline, ‘Denim Untuk Rakyat’ or ‘Denim for the People’.
ASAS is constructed from 12.5oz raw denim with less than two percent elasticity stretch material and tied off with an interlocked inseam stitching on the outseam.
The endangered and elusive Tapir, one of Tarik’s two well-known mascots (with the Mamak being the other one), adorned its silver denim buttons. Inspired by the vintage construction with shorter waistband and longer zipper fly, the jeans’ one-way sewing with single needle stitch will also enforce the lower chain stitch of the waist. In short, ASAS ticks off all the important boxes without burning a hole in your pocket.
Established in 2010, Tarik’s sustainable denim line has been known to cater to those who appreciate craftsmanship and jeans that are capable to age gracefully (check out #tarikfades on Instagram). After months of research and consistent visit to the drawing board, ASAS is a labour of love, a gift to all Malaysians, which will definitely give any of the international denim brands currently in the market a run for its money.
