90s Sneakers, Today’s Luxury

The love for sneakers started way back in the 90s, when I used to actively follow the NBA during Jordan’s prime, topped with my ever-growing basketball card collection, and my humble collection of kicks. My collection consisted of the Reebok Kamikaze(by Shawn Kemp of Seattle Supersonics), Nike Air More Uptempo(by Scottie Pippen of Chicago Bulls), and Nike Air Penny(by Penny Hardaway of Orlando Magic). The designs were striking and loud statement shoes worn by some of my favorite basketball players. Where did I get inspiration for styling in the 90s? As seen in all the 90s rap videos, of course! Sporting your favorite player’s jersey, baggy jeans, New Era cap, and finish it off with your favorite basketball kicks.

Fast forward to today, a more refined look complimented with a pair of sneakers to complete your personal style. A must-have in every men’s shoebox, is an all-white sneaker, it goes well with almost any get-up. Remember the Nike Air Force One Low? Nelly sang it best, “stomping in my Air Force One”. This era brings you various colorways, color blocking, collaborations with fashion designers, celebrities, sports figures, and luxury brands, giving more options of must-have sneakers. One in particular that is so nostalgic, is the adidas partnership with Dragon Ball Z; it brings back fond carefree childhood memories. Spearheading in innovation for all sneakerheads comes from brands like Nike and adidas, and yes, it’s a lifestyle. What’s next? For me personally, custom shoes! Your design, your identity. The sneakers to look out for and add to cart for under RM1000 & under RM500.
