Asian Flare with Latino Spirit

Mr.Chew’s Chino Latino bar

How do you describe a place that doesn’t want to be known as a fusion restaurant but has a fusion menu? No word comes to mind to describe the answer to the question but at Mr.Chew’s Chino Latino bar, you basically have the little taste of everything. It’s restaurant name can be spotted a mile away underneath the WOLO Hotel lighted signage and is located on the highest floor of the once duplex penthouse.

With mission to change the way people view Asian food, Christian Bauer and Eddie Chew, the brains behind Troika Sky Dining and Brasserie Fritz, incorporate influences from around the world. If you’ve ever wondered how it feels to dine in a Manhattan loft-inspired restaurant with high ceilings and walls, then Mr. Chew’s will give you the vibes.

The place is too Instagram-worthy not to post, with the dining area divided between two floors added with a few spacious, chic and comfortable private seating areas. The centrepiece of the restaurant is literally in the centre, showcasing an iconic painting of an Empress character accompanied by a small chimp on her shoulder and a flamingo alongside a bowl of chips and vodka on the side.

Who would have thought having 6 different flavours of pickled dishes would be oddly satisfying as appetizers… While the menu is uniquely Asian with a touch of Latin American influences, the menu features punchy flavours that leaves you feeling nostalgic but also freshly new. Mr.Chew’s Chino Latino lunch serves daily from 11:30am to 2:30pm with the set starting from (RM45++) which features a wicker bento box filled with an inventive assortment of pickles, a stuffed bun and the roll of the day, all followed by a choice of mains.

Highlighting Kuala Lumpur’s first ever in-house dessert bar in Mr.Chew’s Chino Latino restaurant, it features a six-course Dessert Degustation Menu with tea (RM65) or alcohol (RM95) pairing that’s specifically curated by pastry Chef Ivan Ong to mix familiar flavours with the unusual. Adding his own spin to some of his (and your) childhood favourites – the Lychee (or Mint) Ais Kacang.

Prepared underneath the stunning painting of the Empress, Mr. Chew’s cocktail bar takes design, presentation and packaging very seriously. The “Take-Away” Gin & Tonic is a definite Instagram magnet with its picture-worthy Chinese takeaway container look. Another would be an easy-to-drink cocktail of white wine, jasmine cordial, dry vermouth, as well as shiso.
